Official release signings at Forbidden Planet & GW Plaza & Signings at GW Wood Green & GW Bromley

Saturday 29th March - Launch Day!

The huge Forbidden Planet display of Relentless and Rob's book 'Of Ancient Blood'

The official release of Relentless took place with not one, but two signings. The first in the Forbidden Planet in central London alongside Rob Earl. Rob is a veteran Black Library author with a half dozen fantasy novels already to his name, and is a great guy to boot.

Richard and Robert get down to some serious signing

One of the fans to come had brought his own copy, purchased in advance, and already well-thumbed. Little did he suspect, as the first fan to come to a signing having read the book, the battery of questions that Richard would have for him!

Just some of the folks who stopped by to get their books signed

Big thanks to the BL and FP event organisers who helped make that happen.

Once the hour was up at Forbidden Planet, Richard headed down Tottenham Court Road to GW Plaza on Oxford Street, there to officially launch the book in a GW store.

Richard at GW Plaza, the eagle-eyed will note a slight difference between the author and the photo on the poster. The photo used for the posters is actually Richard's old GW staff security photo!

Unfortunately only a handful of copies (all the ones you can see in that picture!) had made it through to the store, and two of them had already been bought so it sold out quickly. But Richard enjoyed himself chatting with staff and customers on a busy Saturday afternoon and promised to come back again once they had restocked. Plaza had also put on a specially themed Relentless game. Using Space Hulk tiles they recreated the dramatic clash in the corridors of the ship at the end of the novel.

26th April 2008 - GW Wood Green and Warhammer's 25th!
The 26th of April was Warhammer 25th birthday and every single GW store in the country (nay, the world) was throwing a party. Armed with the veritable swathe of extra background and interviews, Richard crashed the GW Wood Green party, chatted with the staff and customers... and there may have been some cake.

17th May 2008 - GW Bromley and Black Library store day!
The 17th of May was Black Library store day, where every store in the UK had a day dedicated to the awesome novels and books that emerge from that arcane and mysterious vault. The south London stores decided to run a competition between themselves as to who could sell the most BL novels that day... but the savvy GW Bromley chaps decided to bring in a ringer... and invited down a BL author!

No, this wasn't one fanatical fan getting his book signed twice, these are Bromley stores' identical twins Andrew and Paul... wait, actually it's Paul and Andrew...

Richard had a great in the Black Library themed atmosphere and met some of the strange, but lovable (but strange) folks down in GW Bromley. The stand-out staffer was Wayne who had left his copy of Relentless at home, so bought a second copy on the day just to have one signed. The stand-out fan, well really the first prize has to be shared between the identical twins Paul and Andrew, who not only had a copy each but also each brought along cakes! The tradition apparently started when they brought doughnuts for Dan Abnett, and in Richard's slightly sugar-encrusted opinion, let the tradition continue!

One fan has Richard sign his skateboard... praise the Emperor for sharpies
